Robert (Bob) Bechtel has been teaching at the University of Arizona for over 25 years. He has published three books, including Environment & Behavior, An Introduction in 1997 , and is the editor of the journal Environment and Behavior . His interests are in housing, space travel, remote communities, and environmental attitudes.
Sheila Danko has a multi-disciplinary design background with formal training in architecture and industrial, graphic, and interior design. She teaches at Cornell University and does research in the areas of leadership, creative problem-solving, and design education, with emphasis on how an understanding of design can lead to innovative leadership in a variety of disciplines.
Mark Francis, FASLA, is professor of landscape architecture at University of California, Davis, where he directs the Center for Design Research. He is Senior Design Consultant with the firm MIG in Berkeley and Associate Editor of the Journal of Architectural and Planning Research. His most recent book is The California Landscape Garden (1999).
Jack Nasar is a professor of city and regional planning in the School of Architecture at The Ohio State University and is the editor of the Journal of Planning Literature. He is the author of three books, including The Evaluative Image of the City. His areas of interest include crime prevention through design, visual preferences, and architectural programming.
Roberta Null has taught housing and interior design courses at Purdue, San Diego State, and most recently at the University of Miami in Ohio. Dr. Null's research and teaching have focused on design of supportive environments for special-needs groups. She is completing a second edition of her book Universal Design: Creative Solutions to ADA Compliance .
Wolfgang Preiser is a professor of architecture at the University of Cincinnati. He has over 30 years of experience in teaching, research, consulting, and worldwide lecturing on topics including post-occupancy evaluation, facility programming, and universal design. He has published 13 books and, most recently, the Universal Design Handbook.
Robert L. Ryan, ASLA, is an assistant professor at the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His current research interests include understanding the factors that affect people's attachment to parks and open space and preserving rural character through innovative land use planning. He is the co-author with Rachel and Stephen Kaplan of the award-winning book, With People in Mind: Design and Management of Everyday Nature.
Henry Sanoff, AIA, is a distinguished professor of architecture at North Carolina State University and an architectural design consultant. His areas of interest include community participation in the design of urban, educational, and housing environments.
Robert (Bob) Sommer teaches in the Psychology Department at the University of California, Davis, where he has chaired four departments (Psychology, Environmental Design, Rhetoric & Communication, and Art). He has also taught at Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Shauna Stallworth is executive director of the Organization of Black Designers (OBD) and program director for DesigNation, the international multicultural, multidiscipline design conference. She works as an advocate, writer, and frequent lecturer on the value of design, the promotion of design excellence, and the importance of diverse design perspectives.
J. William Thompson, FASLA, the editor of Landscape Architecture magazine, has been with the magazine since 1988. He is the coauthor of Sustainable Landscape Construction . In 2001, he received the Bradford Williams Award for writing about landscape architecture.
Jacqueline Vischer is an environmental psychologist who is currently running an Interior Design program at the University of Montreal. She has published four books, three of which are in the area of evaluating office environments and new workspace design.
Willem van Vliet– teaches in the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado, where he is the director of the Ph.D. Program in Design and Planning. He is the editor of The Encyclopedia of Housing.
Sue Weidemann has taught about the research process and its applications to design in the landscape architecture and architecture disciplines at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for 24 years. She became the Director of Research at BOSTI Associates, in 1994, and is now its President. She has co-authored Disproving Widespread Myths about Workplace Design with Michael Brill and the BOSTI Associates.
